Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very Quiet, works well, a few hiccups
I did a ton of research before buying a warm air humidifier. Across the board, not many rated well, particularly the newer ones. So I finally decided on this older model by Honeywell because it got the least complaints and bad ratings. (At several websites I checked, it rated at least 2 stars higher than any other brand or model). I've had it for about a month now and I really like it.
1) It's extremely quiet (which was a huge priority for me because I'm a light sleeper). The actual running of the machine you cannot hear at all. There is a faint whisper of the air blowing through the vent, as quiet as someone blowing out a candle very softly. Not bothersome at all. And compared to my two cold air humidifiers, it's amazing. The only sound which could annoy a person trying to sleep is the occasional blub-blub of air bubbles as water goes into the heating chamber. Other than that, it's very very quiet.
2) It works well. It has helped my dry nasal passages a lot. It goes through a tank in a night and a day on low and in just a night on high, so you know it's putting out a lot of moisture.
3) It's fairly easy to clean. I do it once a week and it takes me about 10 minutes of actual work with another 40 minutes of soaking time (first vigegar, then bleach).

My only complaints and problems with this humidifier is that sometimes you have to mess with it a little to get it to go on after refilling the tank or cleaning it. I might have to hit the reset button a few times, turn the dial on and off a few times, and then it goes again. Also, the first time I plugged it in and tried to use it, it shut itself off after 5 minutes a couple of times. I thought I had gotten a broken unit, called KAZ (who sells and services these units) and they sent me out a new tank and valve. Later that day, though, the unit fixed itself and stayed on. I've never had a problem since, but it's good to know the customer service is good. One more thing is that so far I haven't been able get the humidistat feature to work. Either my room never reaches a high enough humidity for it to shut itself off--which is quite possible in my super dry climate--or it doesn't work.

Overall, considering all the bad reviews for other humidifiers that are loud, ones that burn out, and ones that break down, I think this was a good choice and I'm happy with it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great for the cost, but know what to expect.
A quick education:

HUMIDIFIERS - The Up Side:
1) Add moisture to the air, thereby...
2) Cut heat costs
3) Alleviate sinus problems
4) Ease cold season drying of the skin and hair

HUMIDIFIERS - The Down Side:
1) Too much moisture means mold and mildew
2) Smaller units require frequent, usually daily cleaning.
3) Warm mist units use more energy than cold mist units
4) Life expectancy of smaller units isn't that long
5) Must be placed away from any walls or wood flooring to avoid water damage.

WHAT TO EXPECT OF A HUMIDIFIER:
1) You get what you pay for: Hassle-free units last for years with little maintenance. They also cost in the triple digits. A cheaper, smaller unit will require more maintenance, and more frequent refills.

2) Life Expectancy for compact units: Expect 2 to 5 years at best. For better warranties and life expectancies, refer to rule #1 above.

2) Cold vs. Warm Mist: HUGE difference in the two. For me, cool mist humidifiers seem to actually cool the air. The warm mist adds substantial moisture to the air. Be sure to get a unit with a thermostat.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very good humidifier
We've had this humidifier about 4 years now and I have to say I'm impressed it's still working. Previous warm air humidifiers we have bought only seemed to last 1 season. Cleaning is easy and I like that we don't have to replace filters. I have extreme allergies and am very sensitive to dry winter air. I have had both hot and cool mist humidifiers but I prefer the hot mist. I just have my doubts as to how clean the cool mist humidifiers are and have worries about germs brewing whereas I think the warm mist heats up and kills any mold or germs. (I'm no expert, just my own personal opinion.) I have to give it 5 stars because I love this humidifier.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not as Good as I originaly thought - read last part of my review.
I am very sensitive to dry air so I've always had humidifiers and become quite a self-made expert in what makes a good one.

There are really only four considerations when buying a humidifier:

1. What kind of humidity does it put out? Steam? Cool mist droplets? Warm-mist droplets?
2. How much noise does it make?
3. What is its tank capacity?
4. What is its output?

TYPE OF HUMIDITY: This one puts out real steam, like a vaporizer. This is not quite clear from the description because it calls itself a "warm moisture humidifier". I don't know what warm moisture is. Some companies say "warm moisture" and they mean something different than steam. I've seen warm moisture come in the form of tiny water droplets which aren't the same as steam. Steam is really the best as far as nourishing your skin and your sinuses and lungs.

NOISE: This is the absolute best feature of this humidifier. It is absolutely silent. It makes no noise whatsoever. It is the quietest humidifier I've ever had. Even if I get down on the floor and put my ear right next do it I don't hear a thing. If you want to use this where you sleep (most common use), noise is a very important consideration as many humidifiers make horrendous noises that make it all but impossible to sleep.

TANK CAPACITY: Here's where the advertising for this product becomes very misleading. It claims the tank capacity is 3 gallons, however, it's only 2 gallons! This is really an outrageous claim in light of the reality. I fill it up by filling a 1-gallon milk bottle. Only two 1-gallon milk bottles full of water will fit into this tank. Which means it does not hold 3 gallons as is claimed, it only holds two.

This is an important consideration because the larger the tank the longer you can go between fillings. Some humidifiers have such small tanks (relative to their output) that you have to fill them as often as once every 4 hours! This one is not that bad but they should tell the truth about this feature.

OUTPUT: The misleading claims continue here. In the description it says, "This model evaporates about 3 gallons of water in 24 hours at high speed."

Not true! It actually evaporates more than 3 gallons on high every 24 hours. That's a good thing on one hand because it means it puts a good amount of humidity into the air. But it's bad in that it means you'll have to refill the tank not once every 24 hours, but more like twice every 24 hours. That's twice as much refilling.

Also, people will use this claim to determine how often they'll have to refill it if they run it on a lower setting. It would be reasonable to assume from this claim that if you left it on low you would only have to refill it every 36 or 48 hours. But again, you'll have to refill it more than you think you will.

Also related to output, are the output settings, in this case High and Low. Most of these types of humidifiers have three settings, high, medium & low, but this one unfortunately only has two. Giving you less choice and less flexibility in customizing your steam output to just the way you want it.

The other thing, is that even though it outputs at more than 3 gallons every 24 hours, the high setting is like the medium setting on most. And on the low setting it outputs almost no steam. You may ask why would I want a humidifier that outputs more humidity than you really need on High. Well, the reason is, if you're in a really dry room, it's nice to turn it on high and get a really powerful output for 20-30 minutes to get the humidity up to proper levels, then you can cut it back to medium or low to maintain those levels.

All in all though, I give this humidifier a decent rating. I'm actually buying one more. Having two will give me the high humidity output I need when I first turn them on, then I can turn one off while the other one maintains the humidity level. When that one runs out I can just switch to the other one. In essence, by having two I double my tank capacity and lessen the frequency with which I have to fill them up.

In the end though, even if you get just one, it does output enough to keep a fairly sizable room at a comfortable humidity level (38%-45%) overnight without having to refill it in the middle of the night. Since the tank only holds two gallons though, you do have to refill every 9-10 hours.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great and Quiet
I searched and searched for the right humidifier and this one is perfect. It is really quiet, works perfectly and I'm very happy with it.
